Come explore the some of the big waves of the world, and the surfers who ride them. From Teahupoo to Cyclops if you love surfing, you know these spots all by name and by their gnarly reputation.

Cyclops, Australia This wave is called Cyclops. Located in Australia, this break is in an isolated island about 2km off Esperance (about 5 hours drive from Perth) Its lip has been measured to be 10 Feet thick on big days which means if pulls of a massive amount of water from the reef which is coral. You only have about 2-3 feet of water seperating your from that deadly coral. It is almost un-surfable. But it has been done.

Jaws wave, Hawaii This wave is called Jaws, and is located in Peahi, Hawaii. This monster is a pioneer of big waves. When it first broke people couldnt imagine getting into this wave. Like all of these waves, a jet ski is a necessity to ride the wave. The waves at "Jaws" can reach heights of 70 ft (21.3 m) on the face of the wave, moving as fast as 30 mph (48.3 km/h)

Belharra, France wave This amazing wave is called Belharra.Located off Donibane Lohizune in the French Basque Country. This wave breaks on a rocky coral reef. Only experts should be surfing here and a jet ski should be included.

Mavericks California Wave This wave is Mavericks. Founded and first surfed by big wave surfing legend Jeff Clark. Its about a 40 min. paddle out to hit this wave from a small beach near the north jetty. Bring your wetsuit with you.

As you can see these waves are not for the faint of heart, or for the unexperienced surfers. They are think, heavy and epic. Keep in mind, these are just a fraction of the big waves around the world. Im sure there are tons that haven't even been found yet!

Jeff Clark, as previously mentioned is considered by most people as one of the Fathers of big wave surfing.
